John Part will set up Taylor clash with comfortable win
Published:John Part should have no trouble progressing to the second round of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship as he looks to win his fourth world title.
Part is the only player – apart from Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld – to have won a PDC World title since 1995. He may not emulate that success again (he’s 125/1 to win the tournament outright) but he will certainly last longer than one round.
He’ll face the winner of Per Laursen or Boris Krcmar who meet in a preliminary round earlier in the day. Laursen – the world No.80 – is narrow favourite at 4/7 to beat the Croatian.
He should easily beat the world No.266 and set up a tie with Part, with the winner of that clash going on to play 15-time winner and defending champion, Phil Taylor.
The other game this evening sees Wes Newton take on Darin Young, with the Englishman big favourite at 2/5.
Newton has enjoyed a relatively successful year, winning three Players Championship tournaments and climbing to 15 in the world rankings – the first time the 33-year-old has breached the top 16.
Young may have made it through to the second round in last year’s event, but he will have no such luck this time around. Back Newton to win 3-1 at 13/5.
