Ipswich chief gives Keane backing after dismal run of form

| 08.12.2010

Ipswich chief executive Simon Clegg has dismissed rumours that boss Roy Keane is on borrowed time.

The Tractor Boys have now lost their last five league games – a run that has seen them slump to 17th in the league. They now face a huge game against bottom of the table Preston North End this weekend, with Keane’s side at 15/8 to end their dreadful run of form.

However, Clegg has given Keane his full backing ahead of that game and believes the former Manchester United skipper is the man to turn around their fortunes.

He said: “Roy understands, he is under no illusions, that we’re in a results-driven business and people will judge us by those results.

“Ultimately, if the results are not forthcoming, then he accepts and he understands that the manager will pay the ultimate price for that.

“And that’s why everyone at the club is desperately trying to get behind Roy, trying to give him every bit of support possible, to ensure he can turn it around.

“We’re trying to build for the long term, we’re trying to get this club back into the Premier League and Roy is being given every single bit of support to try and help him achieve that.”

The Portman Road side have won just two of their last ten league games – losing the other eight. They have only kept one clean sheet in their last 13 games and a win against Preston will be far from straightforward.

However, with Preston without a win in seven games, backing Ipswich to end their dismal run could be well worth backing at 15/8.
