Fabio Capello being lined up by Inter Milan to replace Rafa Benitez

Harry Redknapp may be handed the England job sooner than he thinks with Inter Milan reportedly interested in replacing Rafael Benitez with Fabio Capello.

Three wins from his last 11 league games has seen Rafael Benitez’s position as Inter Milan manager come under threat, and the Italian press are speculating that current England boss Capello is Inter’s main target.

Having started the season at 11/10 to win their sixth consecutive Serie A title, Inter are now 13 points off Serie A leaders AC Milan and have been significantly lengthened to 5/1.

It is thought that Inter president Massimo Moratti has lost patience with Benitez after the Spaniard’s poor start which has seen Inter lose pace with the league leaders and finish behind Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League group.

The Italian press is strongly linking Capello with a potential move to the San Siro and should Inter approach the FA, England’s governing body may consider the approach which would mean they avoid paying compensation to Capello.

Former Roma coach and current Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti has also been linked with Benitez’s job but it seems Moratti favours Capello because he believes the England coach could convince Wayne Rooney to join Inter.

It is thought that Moratti is willing to pay €34m to capture the Manchester United striker, and a potential Rooney and Samuel Eto’o partnership could be frightening for the other clubs in Serie A.

AC Milan currently head the Serie A betting at 8/11 and with a six-point gap already established at the top of Serie A, it’s difficult to see just who would catch them.

Juventus currently lead the chasing pack and they are 4/1 to win the Italian title this season.
