Dutch pair can spring a surprise at World Cup of Darts

Published:

Phil Taylor and James Wade may be massive favourites for the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts at 1/3, but they aren’t the only team in with a shout of winning.

Second Favourites in the betting, Netherlands, certainly have the credentials to come away with the trophy.

Boasting a team of world no. 17 Co Stompe and 2007 world champion Raymond van Barneveld, they could certainly be worth backing at 11/2.

They begin their campaign this evening against Germany. The Germans are represented by Jyhan Artut and Andree Welge who didn’t even have to play their opening round game against Martin Kapucian and Pavel Drtil, with the Czech duo unable to make their flight to Britain because of the adverse weather conditions.

The Dutch duo should comfortably sweep aside Welge and Artut – who are 65th and 66th in the world respectively – and may be worth looking at for the overall competition.

Elsewhere, England begin against Spain, Scottish duo Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton start against Russia and Wales’ Mark Webster and Barrie Bates start against New Zealand.

The full second round draw:

Canada v Belgium
USA v Sweden
Northern Ireland v Austria
Wales v New Zealand
Scotland v Russia
Netherlands v Germany
England v Spain
Australia v Republic of Ireland
