Carlos Tevez commits his future to Manchester City

The parallels between Wayne Rooney’s insistence that he wanted to leave Manchester United and Carlos Tevez’s desire to leave their City rivals were already numerous – now Tevez has emulated his former teammate even further by performing a spectacular U-turn.

The Argentinian striker held talks with City boss Roberto Mancini this afternoon ahead of City’s game against Everton – which they are 8/11 favourites to win – and an all too predictable outcome was reached.

A City statement read: “During the meeting Carlos expressed his absolute commitment to the Club and formally withdrew his transfer request. Carlos’ contract remains unchanged and both Carlos and the Football Club are keen to focus on the opportunities that lie ahead.

“Roberto Mancini commented “Carlos is a world class player whose contribution since he joined the Club has been invaluable.

“I am pleased that we are now able to focus on pure football matters and to be able to look forward to Carlos continuing to play a significant role in the Club’s progress.”

Tevez had expressed a desire to leave the club, first because he said he missed his family in Argentina, then because he felt his relationship with unnamed executives had deteriorated beyond repair.

There has been no mention of whether Tevez will remain as club captain following this very public fallout.
