Cardiff City suffering from fear factor admits boss Jones

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones was once again left lamenting sloppy defending for his side’s 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Bluebirds have won just one of their last seven games in the Championship but are still second in the table following Swansea City’s draw against Millwall on Friday evening.

Despite their poor run of form, Cardiff are still second favourites to win the Championship at 4/1 after QPR’s defeat against Watford kept the Hoops in sight. However, the only thing concerning Jones at the moment is Cardiff’s own poor form.

He said: “We’ve got to stop doing this. We can’t keep chasing games all the time because we’re forcing things.

“We had a lot of the ball and we were slowly getting to grips with things, but then we’ve given them something to hang onto and they can pile everybody back in their half.

“Then they punt it back again and we’re chasing back to our own goal. We have to be better than that and we are not defending as well as we should do.

“It’s like there’s a little bit of fear that’s crept into them, but I don’t see why given the position we’re in. But the fact is we’re making too many basic errors at the back.”

Boro came out on top thanks to a 40th minute Julio Arca penalty, which was enough to see off a rather toothless Cardiff side who were missing top scorer Jay Bothroyd with a hamstring injury.
