Boothroyd believes Marlon King will fire Coventry up the table

Aidy Boothroyd is convinced there is still more to come from striker Marlon King, who is claiming his first goal for the Sky Blues’ in their 2-0 win at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Coventry were 1-0 up when King had a shot that cannoned off the post and went in off the Iron’s Joe Murphy.

King claimed the goal though and ran to celebrate with Boothroyd, who has given King another chance in football following his imprisonment for sexual assault.

With King now off the mark – unofficially at least – Boothroyd believes the 30-year-old can continue to prove his doubters wrong.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, he said: “There was never any doubt he was going to score and it will go down in the programme as his goal.

“It was just a matter of time but he is still not anywhere near where he can be or where we want him to be.

“I still think we are only seeing 60 per of what he is, but that will come with time and the more games and more training sessions the better he will be.”

Coventry are now up to sixth in the league following consecutive wins against Burnley and Scunthorpe United. They look set to make it three in a row on Saturday as they face a Middlesbrough side who sit 23rd in the table.

With Boro winning just two of their last 12 Championship games, backing Coventry to get another victory and cement their place in the play-off spots looks to be well worth a bet at 11/10.
