Barcelona and Wolfsburg are chasing Arsenal star Denilson

The January transfer window is still very much shut, but already the outrageous rumours are already starting to fly.

Foremost today is the news that Barcelona are allegedly chasing an Arsenal midfielder – and it’s not the one you might think.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barca have lowered their sights from Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas to the altogether more ordinary Denilson.

Barca aren’t the only side interested in the 22-year-old though. Steve McClaren is also rumoured to be interested in snapping him up for his current side, Wolfsburg.

Denilson himself refuses to rule anything out, saying: “I have a lot of feeling for Arsenal and I’ve been here since 2006. The thought of breathing new air can’t be ruled out, because I’m very young.”

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will get a chance to have a close look at Denilson when his side face Arsenal in the last-16 of the Champions League next month.

Arsenal have gone out to 25/1 to win Europe’s premier completion after being drawn against the favourites. Barca have drifted ever-so-slightly to 23/10, but remain the team to beat ahead of Real Madrid at 7/2.

Before that though, the Gunners face a tough game at home to Chelsea. The Blues have been in rotten form lately, but with Arsenal winning just two of their last 18 meetings, backing a win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men looks very tempting at 9/5.
