Australian No.1 Adam Scott can win in his own backyard

Adam Scott is convinced he is playing better than ever – and is determined to show it at this week’s Australian PGA Championship.

The Australian No.1 has won three events this year and has climbed to No.21 in the world rankings. However, despite his brilliant season he had a disappointing time of things in last week’s Australian Open, finishing 32nd.

Despite that poor showing, Scott is at 7/1 to win in his homeland for the first time since his triumph in last season’s Australian Open.

He said: “I’m hitting the ball as well as I ever have done.

“I’d like to get myself in the hunt this week, I mean I don’t particularly enjoy being down the bottom of the field on the weekend wherever it is – it’s just not that exciting.

“So I’d love to get right in the hunt from Thursday and have a few days where I’m feeling really competitive and finish the year on a high note.”

Despite his good form, he will face plenty of competition this week. Geoff Ogilvy – who won the Australian Open last week – has hit some good form and is favourite for the event at 6/1.

Defending champion, Robert Allenby, joins Scott at 7/1 after finishing seventh at the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa in his last tournament – despite struggling with his putter all week.

It’s looking very much like a three horse race for the crown with the third favourite being John Senden at 10/1 despite his current world ranking of 86.
