Bet on Arsenal vs Wigan – Walcott to help Wenger’s trophy ambitions

Published:

Theo Walcott seems a great bet at 6/5 to score for Arsenal in their Carling Cup quarter final with Wigan based on his previous record against the opposition and his performances in the competition so far this season.

To Score At Any Time

Arsene Wenger’s search for a first trophy since 2005 could be a seen as a big reason as to why he has chosen to pick strong teams in the Carling Cup this season, instead of the youths he has opted to give first-team experience to in previous campaigns.

Walcott did not feature in the third round victory over north London rivals Spurs, but then proved the major difference in the last round when Arsenal breezed past Newcastle 4-0 where he helped himself to a double.

The 21-year-old has also scored in both of his last two Premier League appearances against Wigan.

Those fancying being a bit more adventurous may want to take the 9/2 that Walcott opens the scoring against Wigan.

Wenger may also use the game to give vital minutes to Robin van Persie as he continues his comeback from injury and he is 8/13 to find the target in the 90 minutes.

Match Odds

This is the eighth season in succession that Arsenal have reached the last eight of the Carling Cup and they will want to avoid being eliminated at this stage for the third time in a row.

Arsenal’s betting odds are 2/7 that they beat Wigan in the 90 minutes, while it is 1/8 that they qualify.

Wigan may have only won two of their previous 13 matches with Arsenal, but have already won in north London in the league this season when leaving Tottenham with a surprise 1-0 victory.

They are 9/1 to beat Arsenal, who have lost their last two home games in the Premier League.

A £10 bet on Arsenal winning 4-0 and Walcott scoring the first goal will pay out £400. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
