David Villa prioritising La Liga over Champions League at Barcelona

Published:

Backing Barcelona to win La Liga over the Champions League this season could prove a prudent strategy as striker David Villa has indicated that this is the competition he would rather win.

With the Catalan giants favourites to win both competitions, many will be expecting the club to make a fist of doing the double under Pep Guardiola.

Barcelona’s betting odds are 5/6 to win a third successive La Liga title and Villa feels that the format of being consistent over the course of an entire league season makes winning this trophy his primary aim.

The Spanish striker said: “The Champions League is the hardest, the most glamorous and perhaps more difficult, but you need more quality to win the Liga.

“La Liga it is complicated because only the best can win it.”

Barcelona are currently embroiled in a two-horse race to win La Liga with big rivals Real Madrid as just a point separates the pair after 12 games.

This obviously makes the upcoming clash between the leading duo mightily important and it could have a major say on the whereabouts of the title.

Barcelona are 1/1 to beat Real Madrid and not only would this move them to the head of the standings, but it would also inflict a first defeat on Jose Mourinho since his appointment as Madrid boss.

In Barcelona’s favour is that they have won their last four meetings with Real Madrid, while they have also kept clean sheets in both of the last two clashes at the Nou Camp.

However, Mourinho may be confident of masterminding a victory as his Inter Milan knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League last season.

Real Madrid are 11/5 to beat Barcelona and may take confidence from the fact that they have avoided defeat in seven of their last ten trips to the Nou Camp.

Real Madrid are 10/11 to win La Liga. See the full La Liga winners football betting odds market.
