Sublime Bale helps Spurs to the top of the pile in Group A

Published:

If Gareth Bale’s performance in the San Siro drew the plaudits, his exhibition at White Hart Lane last night confirmed the Welshman’s status as one of the most exciting talents in world football.

Brazilian right back Maicon was run ragged last night as the winger caused numerous problems for the Inter defence, and Bale’s performance was capped with two wonderfully crafted assists for Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko .

The 3-1 win for Spurs leave them top of Group A thanks to their 6-5 aggregate score over Inter, and Spurs are now 1/1 to top the group with Inter available at 8/11.

Werder Bremen are up next for Spurs and the German club are unable to qualify after losing to FC Twente last night.

Spurs face Bremen at White Hart Lane and Harry Redknapp will target three points to confirm their place at the top before they travel to Holland for a tie against Twente.

With Inter playing Twente at the San Siro next, the top two sides in Group A could well be on 10 points each going into the final round of group matches leaving everything to play for.

Twente are 25/1 to win Group A but would need to beat Inter in Italy and Spurs in Holland to do so.

With Spurs likely to progress after their historic win last night, Bale and Pavlyuchenko will have a few more games to enhance their goal tally.

After his hat-trick in the San Siro, Bale is 33/1 to be the Champions League top scorer along with his team mate Pavlyuchenko who has three goals to his name in the competition.

However the man that got Inter’s consolation last night still heads the market at 9/4 and Samuel Eto’o will be tough to beat in the race for the golden boot.

Spurs have been cut to 14/1 to win the Champions League. See the full UEFA Champions League football betting odds here.
