Still all to play for in Grand Slam of Darts group games

A final Group H victory against Wes Newton as all that stands between Phil Taylor and a shot at his fourth consecutive Grand Slam of Darts title.

After losing his second game against Ted Hankey, ‘The Power’ must beat Newton to progress and, despite struggling to adapt to wearing glasses for the first time in a tournament, Taylor should still come out on top in this battle. Taylor is 1/9 in the darts betting to see off the challenge of Newton.

Hankey is already guaranteed qualification following his victories over Taylor and Newton and is 2/5 to make it a clean sweep against Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman has lost both of his opening games and will have already booked his flight home – Hankey should easily win.

It’s just as open in Group G where three players are still able to qualify for the second round.

Paul Nicholson leads the way after winning his opening two games against Ronnie Baxter and Aaron Monk, but could still fail to qualify. If he suffers a hammering at the hands of Steve Beaton and Baxter beats Monk, then Baxter and Beaton will be in the hat for the next round.

However, that shouldn’t happen. Nicholson has been in fine form so far and, while both players are at 5/6 in the darts market, he should overcome Beaton.

He should be joined by Baxter in the next round, with the Blackpool player big favourite in his game with Monk at 8/15.

Monk lost his last game 5-1 against Beaton and – with no chance to qualify – shouldn’t provide too sterner test.
