Smalling tips below par Man Utd to win Premier League title

Chris Smalling is convinced that Manchester United are favourites to win the Premier League and the fact that they have remained unbeaten when going through a stuttering spell only heightens their claims further.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s team have avoided defeat in their opening 14 games of the Premier League season and despite not playing particularly well, they have moved level on points at the top of the standings with Chelsea.

These developments have resulted in Manchester United’s betting odds being slashed to 2/1 and the return of Wayne Rooney from a break should give them added impetus in the final third.

However, Smalling knows that there is no certainty that Manchester United will take the expected three points in their next game against Blackburn, given the unpredictable nature of the results to have taken place in the top flight so far this season.

The defender told Goal.com: “It’s like the Championship and the lower leagues. Even some of the lesser teams from last season are beating the top teams.

“We are really starting to produce in the final third and show our stuff and we’re still unbeaten in the league so we feel we’re favourites.

“It’s a much more open league but it’s there for the taking is a team can put a big run of results together.”

Ferguson’s team will be hoping to follow up on their win over Wigan by claiming victory over another North West rival in Blackburn and they are 2/7 to land the spoils.

Manchester United have won their last six games at Old Trafford against Blackburn and scored twice in four of these victories.

Therefore, with the Red Devils also looking relatively tight in defence, a 2-0 win to Manchester United looks the obvious choice in the correct score market and can be backed at 5/1.
