Silver By Nature confirmed by Russell for Hennessy Gold Cup

Silver By Nature could prove the each-way steal in the Hennessy Gold Cup if punters are quick to snap up the 16/1 still available on Lucinda Russell’s horse.

Money has already come for the likeable grey, as he has been backed in from 20/1 in the Newbury Hennessy betting ante post market following the confirmation from trainer Russell that this will be his next racecourse appearance.

Russell was in two minds whether to send Silver By Nature to the Hennessy or the Betfair Chase at Haydock, with the horse tending to produce his best performances on the slowest, stamina-draining ground.

However, with a lack of rain meaning that the going is mainly good and good to soft in places at Haydock, Russell has opted to wait another week.

Silver By Nature is one of only eight horses considered to be in the handicap for the Hennessy and his chances of securing an each-way result is enhanced by further as another of these, What A Friend, is unlikely to appear as he is expected to run in the Betfair Chase.

Alongside being well-weighted for the Hennessy, one thing for certain is that he will be staying on in the latter stages of the race.

The eight-year-old outstayed his rivals on heavy ground back on his latest start in February in the Blue Square Gold Cup and that race was over a slightly longer trip of 3m4f.

He was also staying on best in the final strides of the Welsh National last season when just failing to catch Dream Alliance and looks a certain contender for the Grand National in the future.

Peter Buchanan is likely to ride Silver By Nature in the Hennessy Gold Cup as he has been on board the horse for his last nine starts. See the full Newbury Hennessy horse racing odds.
