Siege mentality likely to occur at Plymouth as troubles continue
Published:Peter Reid believes that the current problems rumbling on off the field at Plymouth could end up having a positive impact on it, which may in turn ensure the club move into closer contention in the promotion race.
Plymouth may be placed in the bottom third of the League One standings, but they are only 14 points behind current leaders Brighton and the midway point of the season is still to be reached.
Therefore a run of victories could see Plymouth make a rapid rise up the table, which could make the club a big price to win League One this season at 125/1.
However, Plymouth’s financial woes continue as they have been handed a third winding up petition in under 12 months and are preparing for a visit to the High Court on December 8th.
The crisis is so deep that Reid and the squad have not received their latest wages, but the manager believes this may have a positive impact on the pitch.
He told The Herald: “In circumstances like this you try to keep the players up to speed with what’s going on. I think that’s important because they are the ones who have got to go out on the pitch and perform.
“When you are in this sort of situation you can get a siege mentality among the group, and that could work for us.”
Plymouth won their last League One game against Dagenham and Redbridge and will be hoping to build on this result when they travel to MK Dons next.
Reid’s team are 3/1 underdogs to secure the three points against a Dons side that have only lost once at home in the league all season.
However, Plymouth do have League One top scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips in their ranks and they will be banking on him finding the target.
