Real Madrid and Bayern Munich book their places in second round

Pedro Leon’s 94th minute equaliser was enough to guarantee Real Madrid a place in the last 16 after an enthralling final 25 minutes at the San Siro.

The equaliser means Milan are left on five points in Group G and Massimilano Alegri still has a lot of work to do if his side are to join Real in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Martin Jol knows that last night’s defeat in Auxerre has dented Ajax’s chances of qualifying, but with Real already qualified, it could be a weakened team that Jose Mourinho takes to the Amsterdam Arena in a fortnight.

If that is the case, Ajax will fancy their chances of winning which would put them on seven points in Group G.

The game between Auxerre and AC Milan has become crucial in the race to join Real in the knockout stages and a win for the French team would put them in the ascendancy to qualify.

Milan are 20/1 to win the Champions League but must win that game in France, and their home game with Ajax to be sure of qualifying although if Real beat Ajax in a fortnight then a win against Auxerre would be enough to send them through.

Flippo inzaghi was inspirational for the Rosonerri when coming off the bench last night, and his double has taken his European goals tally to 70, the joint highest tally alongside Schalke 04’s Raul.

Inzaghi has just the two goals in the Champions League but his record in the competition is proven and if Milan continue in the competition, Inzaghi is sure to score some more crucial goals for Milan.

The 66/1 available for Inzaghi to be top Champions League goalscorer is quite attractive, especially with each way offering three places.

Real Madrid are 7/2 to win the Champions League. See the full UEFA Champions League betting odds here.
