Huddlestone the latest casualty for Redknapp at Spurs

Published:

Tom Huddlestone is the latest name that has been added to Tottenham’s ever growing injury list as Harry Redknapp searches for enough depth in his squad to challenge in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Redknapp is already without a number of his regular first teamers, including Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon, and now Huddlestone could join them for potentially three months.

Huddlestone has been troubled by an ankle problem for many weeks and it has now become so severe that it has been decided that surgery is needed.

The news is even more disappointing as the 23-year-old has started to display his untapped potential this season in a blooming partnership with Luka Modric at the heart of the midfield.

Meanwhile, he had also been made captain as a reward for his impressive recent form.

Wilson Palacios is the obvious replacement in the holding midfield role and he faces a big job if Spurs are to remain in contention in all competitions.

However, Redknapp could alternatively attempt to rejuvenate the stalling career of Jermaine Jenas or plump for Sandro, although it may be a risk considering his lack of experience of both English and European football.

Tottenham are nine points behind Chelsea in the current standings and are a big 125/1 to win the Premier League title given the strength of their squad.

Next is arguably the biggest game of their season as they prepare to travel to north London rivals Arsenal.

It is 20 games in all competitions since Tottenham last won an away game against Arsenal, with this last win coming in the Premier League at Highbury in 1993.

Tottenham are 7/2 to beat Arsenal and the hosts have already lost at home to West Brom and Newcastle this season.

Spurs have lost their last three away games in all competitions and their last two in the league. See the whole Arsenal vs Tottenham match betting odds market.
