Grant backed at West Ham and will have January money to spend

The West Ham board remain fully behind Avram Grant and have stated that the manager will have some money to spend in the January transfer window in order to bring in players to help avoid relegation.

West Ham sit bottom of the Premier League after 13 games of the season, winning just once in this time.

The recent home draws with fellow relegation candidates West Brom and Blackpool have done little to increase safety expectations and has led to speculation about Grant’s future as boss, despite only taking over from Gianfranco Zola in the summer.

Grant is among the favourites at 7/4 to be the next Premier League boss to lose his job, but Hammers vice chairman Karren Brady insists that the board are avoiding placing the blame in one particular area and are behind Grant.

She told Sky Sports News: “We don’t want to hit the panic button yet but we do want to look deep into ourselves and say ‘what can we do to help the team and the manager and what can we do to improve things’?

“I can assure you there’s no finger on the button, no target and no ‘you must (do this)’. We have a history of ‘backing our man’, so to speak and we want to have the opportunity to do that this time.

“There’s not an infinite amount of money, but there’s some money. We’ve spent a lot of money already in the summer. If we have to go again we will. We’re already identifying targets.”

West Ham are currently 4/5 to be relegated from the Premier League this season and have already fallen five points from safety.

They have a chance to begin their recovery away at Liverpool next, but have not won at Anfield ever in the Premier League and have failed to score in their visits in the past three league seasons.

West Ham are 6/1 to beat Liverpool, with the home side 4/9 to take the three points. See the full Liverpool vs West Ham Premier League betting odds market.
