Gasquet sets up tie with Federer after overcoming Mahut

As the BNP Masters enters its second day of play, some stunning second round match-ups have already been set with many still to be decided.

Richard Gasquet’s straight sets win over fellow countryman Nicolas Mahut sees him rewarded with a tie against world number two Roger Federer.

Jarkko Nieminen had to go through the qualifiers to seal his place in the tournament, but after beating Xavier Malisse, the Fin will now face Andy Roddick who proved that he is coming back into form with a semi-final appearance in Basle last week.

But with plenty of round one matches still to be completed, Tuesday offers some potential value in the ATP betting market.

Marcel Granollers, the Spaniard ranked 45 in the world, reached the final of the Valencia Open on Saturday and will be confident of providing David Nalbandian with a sterner test than the betting odds imply.

Nalbandian is the 1/5 favourite to progress and book a tie with Andy Murray in the second round, but Granollers will be riding high after his final appearance and offers a little value at 10/3 to beat Nalbandian.

Andy Murray’s conqueror in Valencia last week, Juan Monaco, takes on Sam Querrey for a shot against world number three Novak Djokovic.

Querrey will be confident after winning the only tie these two have played on the hard courts and is the 8/11 favourite to beat Monaco.

But the two met earlier in the year when Monaco emerged victorious on the clay courts of Dusseldorf and the Argentine, who made the quarter-finals of the Valencia Open last week, is 1/1 to beat Querrey.

Whoever wins, Djokovic will be confident of beating both considering the form he’s in on the hard courts and should progress to the third round.

Djokovic is the 3/1 second favourite to win in Paris. See the full BNP Paribas Masters betting odds here.
