Del Piero breaks Serie A scoring record for Juventus with Milan goal

Alessandro Del Piero has set his sights on 200 league goals for Juventus after becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the Italian top flight.

Del Piero, who soon turns 36, overtook Giampiero Boniperti’s record of 178 Serie A strikes when scoring what proved to be the winner as Juventus grabbed a slightly surprising 2-1 win away at AC Milan.

This took his league tally for the Old Lady to 199 after he was also prolific in the recent season they spent in Serie B and revealed that he is not certain to hang up his boots at the end of the season when his current contract expires.

Del Piero said: “Now my aim is to arrive at 200 goals, you should always set yourself new objectives.

“It would be great to finish like this with a performance and a goal like this but I want to go on. I have a great relationship with the club, we’ll talk about (the contract extension) calmly, it’s not a priority.”

Del Piero has been at Juventus since moving from Padova in 1993 and in this time has won seven Serie A titles and the Champions League in 1996.

Juventus currently sit fourth in the league standings after their victory over Milan and they are now 9/2 to win Serie A this season.

They still have seven points to make up on leaders Lazio but will fancy their chances of winning their next Serie A encounter when they host lowly Cesena, who have lost three of their four away games so far.

Juventus do not face Lazio until December 12th, but have already played away to their other chief title rivals Inter and left with a goalless draw.

Lazio are still 14/1 to win Serie A despite being four points clear, with Inter the present favourites at 1/1. See the complete Serie A winners betting odds market.
