Avram has one game to save his West Ham managerial career
The West Ham board have designated the Hammers game with Wigan on Saturday as the match that could “save our season”, meaning Avram Grant faces the chop should his side not come away with three points.
And Ladbrokes have gone against the market by offering punters the best price in the market of 11/10 that Avram Grant is the next Premier League manager to leave – Grant is generally a 5/6 shot and is as short as 4/7 in places.
The defeat to Liverpool on Saturday saw Grant’s ears met with the chant of “you’re getting sacked in the morning”, and it seems Grant has lost the support of the Hammers faithful.
Having played Blackpool, Newcastle and West Brom at home in recent weeks, taking only two points, West Ham’s game with Wigan won’t just affect Grant’s future, but also the future of the Premier League status of the club.
West Ham are currently rock bottom of the Premier League with just nine points from 14 games, and a loss against Wigan would see their current relegation odds of 4/6, shorten rapidly.
Three points on Saturday is a must, not just for Grant but for everyone with an affiliation to West Ham and good news for Hammers fans is that the Premier League betting market has made them the odds on 10/11 favourites.
It’s hard to justify that odds on favouritism for a team that has won just once all season and Wigan are 12/5 to beat West Ham.
But last season West Ham recovered from a 3-0 loss at Liverpool to beat Wigan 3-2 at Upton Park in the following game, Scott Parker also came back into the team for the Wigan game, and Hammers fans will be praying for a repeat result come Saturday.
A £10 stake on West Ham to beat Wigan 3-2 would return £260. See the full Barclays Premier League football betting odds here.
