Australians dejected Down Under as England batter bowling attack

As the stadium seats were left unfilled for the final day of the first Test at the Gabba, the lack of confidence shown by the Aussies in their national side suggest England have the advantage heading into the second Test.

After the run-fest that was the first Test, the draw is now the favourite result for the second Test in the Ashes betting market at 6/5.

England, who entered the first Test priced at 15/8 to win, are 9/4 to win the second Test in Adelaide, the same price as Australia who were 11/10 to win the first Test.

But it will come down to which bowling attack can find the wickets after both attacks struggled to break down some resolute batting from both top orders.

Mitchell Johnson is bearing the brunt of the Australian criticism after failing to take a wicket for the first time in 39 Tests and Johnson could be the fall guy for Doug Bollinger as the Australians look to shuffle their bowling attack.

The good news for England fans is that they were able to watch their side bat with poise and confidence instead of witnessing the usual capitulation and Andrew Strauss, Alistair Cook and Jonathan Trott will all head to Adelaide confident of scoring more runs.

After his double century, Cook has been dramatically cut from 6/1 to 1/2 to be England’s top series runscorer and 13/8 to be the top series runscorer.

Cook is also 4/1 to be England’s top 1st innings runscorer in the second Test but is joined at 4/1 by Andrew Strauss, Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen.

Ricky Ponting demonstrated his fighting spirit with a quick fire 51 from 43 balls and the Australian captain is 7/2 to be Australia’s top first innings runscorer in the second Test and drag his team out of the mire.

England are now 11/8 to win the Ashes series. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
