Another new contract at Dortmund to keep morale high

As if things were not already going well enough for Kevin Grosskreutz at Borussia Dortmund this season as they continue to set the standard at the head of Bundesliga, but the German striker has also now signed a new deal with the club.

Dortmund are now the heavy 2/5 favourites to win the Bundesliga after beating bottom side Borussia Monchenglabach 4-1, which was their 12th victory in 14 league games and leaves them seven points clear at the top.

Grosskreutz has been inspirational in the opening to the season as he has started 13 games and scored four goals.

The 22-year-old has agreed terms for a further two years that ties him to Dortmund until 2014 and he is just one of a batch of young guns stepping up at the club this season.

Japanese star Shinji Kagawa and highly-touted German prospect Mario Gotze have been revelations in the midfield, while Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels have developed a fine understanding at the heart of the defence, despite both being just 22.

Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has also recently signed a new contract, with goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller and defender Marcel Schmelzer expected to be handed new deals soon.

Grosskreutz was quoted as saying on the club’s official website: “Everybody knows that Borussia Dortmund is my dream club, so I’m obviously delighted with this contract extension.”

It has been Dortmund’s away form that has been especially impressive as they have won all seven of their away Bundesliga games, including successes at Stuttgart, Schalke and Mainz.

And they are on the road again in their next league game as they travel to a Nuremberg side that have lost their last three Bundesliga fixtures.
