Adelaide strip to be set up to provide a positive result in 2nd Test

Curator Damien Hough is determined to produce an Adelaide wicket that will provide a positive result in the second Test which starts at midnight on Friday.

Historically the Adelaide wicket has produced more runs than the batsman’s paradise that is the Gabba, which suggests a draw, priced at 11/10, is on the cards for the second Test.

But Hough is determined to produce a wicket that will benefit all types of cricket as he prepares his first ever pitch for an Ashes Test.

My aim is to have a bit in it on day one for the quicks and then it should settle down for the batsmen on days two and three,” said Hough.

“By days four and five we should see some of the natural characteristics of the pitch come through, which will probably see it crack and open up for the spinners.”

Which should benefit England who can boast a stronger bowling attack than Australia and Andrew Strauss’ side are 9/4 to win the second Test.

Strauss, Alistair Cook and Jonathan Trott will all be looking forward to picking up the bat again after that incredible second innings, and it’s that attack, against Australia’s weak bowling attack that can control the Test match for England.

All three players are priced at 4/1 to be England’s top scorer in the first innings of the second Test.

The Adelaide Oval has had a recent AUD$116m facelift and both sets of teams will take to the field in front of a new 14,000 capacity Western grandstand which boosts the grounds capacity to 36,000.

But after the Gabba could only sell 7,000 tickets for the final day of the first Test, there may be a few more empty seats in Adelaide as the Australian public continue to lose confidence, and patience, with the Australian team.

A £10 stake on England to win the Ashes series 4-0 would return £260. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
