Westcarr return could mean goals for Notts County at Carlisle
Published:Craig Westcarr is set to make a timely return to action for Notts County in a bid to ensure that their League One promotion challenge gets back on track.
Westcarr has been a pivotal member of Craig Short’s team so far this season and he was sorely missed when a hamstring strain ruled him out of the recent home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
He has now sufficiently recovered from this problem and is in line to return for the trip to Carlisle, with Short hopeful that Westcarr can take his place in an already depleted midfield.
Short told the Nottingham Post: “Craig has made such a good start to the season. He is one of our most threatening players going forward, either out wide or in a central attacking role, and if he gets a chance he has proved he will take it.”
Westcarr already has five league goals in ten games despite often being played in midfield and he can be backed at 33/1 to be League One’s top scorer this season.
He is almost certain to play in midfield against Carlisle as Alan Judge and Neal Bishop are both suspended, although Luke Hubbins is on standby to be handed his debut should Westcarr break down ahead of the game at Brunton Park.
Notts County are 11/4 to win at Carlisle, with the teams having only been in the same division for two seasons since 1987.
A victory would also move Notts County level on points with their opponents in the League One standings and give them a slim chance of ending the gameweek in the play-off places.
Meanwhile, a Carlisle win, which is priced at 1/1, would give them a strong chance of improving from their current league position of fourth.
