Swindon Town hopeful win will kick start their promotion push

Swindon Town overhauled in form Bristol Rovers 2-1 at the County Ground last night.

Goals from Vincent Pericard and Simon Morrison gave Swindon a 2-0 lead before a late Jeff Hughes penalty pinned them back to 2-1.

The League One promotion hopefuls, 20/1 to win League One, had been toiling to find consistency in their performances this season and would have been worried about the prospect of Bristol Rovers.

But they upset the form book to make it two wins on the bounce and condemn Rovers to their fourth defeat of the season.

Having made it all the way to the play-off final last season and only narrowly losing out to Millwall, Swindon will have been hoping to kick on this season and go up automatically.

But, much like other hotly tipped teams Southampton and Charlton, they’ve endured an indifferent start and will need to go on a winning run to achieve their aims.

The win over the Pirates also saw the welcome return of striker Charlie Austin as he was among Swindon’s substitutes.

Austin scored 20 goals last season and was wanted by several Championship clubs in the summer.

Swindon boss Danny Wilson was delighted to keep hold of him and, until he dislocated his shoulder against Southampton, he’d matched last year’s form with three goals already.

Austin will be hoping for a start as Swindon travel to high flying Peterborough on Saturday.

The Robins are marked at 7/2 to win and will be hoping to make it three wins in a row, but will find it hard against Peterborough.

Posh have lost their last two games, but have picked up six wins so far this season and at 4/5 will expect to do so at home to Swindon.
