Sven inspires optimism as Leicester stun Leeds at Elland Road

Sven-Goran Eriksson picked up his first league win as Leicester manager with an impressive 2-1 defeat of Leeds at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Sven’s Leicester side put in a performance of quality against the Yorkshire club, and Leeds boss Simon Grayson knows his side were lucky not to concede more.

New loan signing Kyle Naughton opened his account for Leicester as they registered only their third win of the season, but it’s a win that suggests the Foxes faithful can look forward to a rise up the table under the former England manager.

At 33/1 to win the Championship, Sven would have to perform near miracles to see his side win the league considering the current performances of Queen’s Park Rangers and Cardiff City.

But only eight points separate Leicester from Swansea in the play-off places, and the renewed optimism around the Walkers stadium can carry Leicester on a play-off charge.

Leicester face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium this weekend and Brendan Rogers side are sure to provide Sven with his biggest challenge yet, especially seeing as Swansea held league leaders QPR to a goalless draw on Tuesday.

But the victory at Elland Road was Leicester’s first on the road this season and they are 11/4 to win away at Swansea on Saturday.

Darius Vassell is on the verge of joining the Foxes after being released by Turkish side Ankaragucu, and Sven, who gave Vassell his first England cap, can inspire the former Aston Villa and Man City striker to find that form that warranted his England place.

The Vassell transfer should be completed before the game with Swansea and the striker will be a welcome addition at the Walkers Stadium.

An each way bet at 33/1 would offer odds of 8/1 on Leicester to finish in the top three. See the full Championship betting odds market here.
