Sousa leaves struggling Leicester with immediate effect
Published:Paulo Sousa has paid the full penalty for Leicester’s dreadful start to the season by parting company with the Championship club after just nine league games in charge.
A top-half finish would have been expected by many Leicester fans prior to the start of the campaign, but Sousa was immediately struggling to meet this goal after taking just one point from the opening four games.
Things have failed to improve much since as they have only managed one win in the Championship and have conceded ten goals in their last two games.
Chris Powell and Mike Stowell have been placed in temporary charge, with Sven-Goran Eriksson unsurprisingly among the early candidates linked with the vacant post.
More interestingly, Martin O’Neill’s name has also been mentioned in a bid to resurrect the glory days of the past when he took the club to the Premier League.
A Leicester statement read: “The club would like to state that Paulo Sousa is a first-class individual, but that this decision has been taken in the best interests of the club and our ambitions to move up the Championship.
“The search for a new manager begins immediately and the club anticipates a quick appointment.”
Powell and Stowell’s first job will be to try to secure a vital home win, with Leicester priced at 4/5 to beat Scunthorpe.
The duo would love for a repeat of last season when Leicester defeated Scunthorpe 5-1 at the Walkers Stadium and Paul Gallagher helped himself to a hat-trick.
