Notts County boss fears ace Davies will be off in January
Published:Notts County manager Craig Short has admitted he is concerned that the club will lose joint top scorer Ben Davies in the January transfer window.
Having turned down a bid from Derby County for the 29 year old in the summer, Short has said he’s not sure the club will be able to hold onto their prize asset.
“I fear January” said Short. “I’m sure there is still interest in him.
“I think clubs were waiting to see if he could do it as this level, and he is comfortably.”
Short went on to heap praise on his star striker, who has netted five times this season so far.
“He’s a huge asset to the club, he’s 29 and he’s probably playing the best football of his career,” added Short.
“He’s very mature and he’s an excellent professional.
“He always works hard in training and in the gym and it’s paying off in games”
Davies is currently joint second in the battle to be League One’s top scorer, and is priced at 33/1 to be the league’s top marksman.
Having won four of their first eight games, Notts County have lost their way in recent weeks.
They’ve lately only had one win in five and will be set on turning things round at home to Plymouth on Saturday.
The Magpies are only higher than the Pilgrims on goals scored in the League One table, but will be hoping they can pick up their fourth home win of the season and are 6/5 to do so.
Given the fact the teams are pretty much neck and neck, Plymouth are on offer at 11/5 to pick up the three points, with a draw available at 12/5.
Both teams will be wanting a win to fight off their early season slumps and work toward promotion to the Championship.
