Shoot on sight mentality helps goal-shy Brentford find the target

Some wise words from manager Andy Scott could end up having a major bearing on where Brentford finish in League One this season.

Inspiring team talks are always sought after by managers to enhance their team’s chances of picking up the three points and Scott needed to find a way of helping his team increase their goal ratio.

Brentford had gone four League One games without finding the target ahead of their home clash with Charlton and the suggestion of shooting on sight paid dividends as they secured a 2-1 win.

This lifted them off the foot of the table and Scott wants more of the same in the coming matches to climb further up the League One ladder.

Scott told the Ealing Gazette: “We’ve been stressing the need to hit the target. The second goal was something we were working on in training. Our forward players have been too isolated, we worked to try and push the midfield up.”

He added that he was surprised to see Toumani Diagouraga add his name to the scoresheet as he “doesn’t usually bother with shooting practice – he just collects the balls”.

Brentford are at home to Oldham next and another victory could see their current odds of 100/1 to win League One cut shorter.

They are 6/5 to beat Oldham, who are a team they are unbeaten against in their last three meetings.

Meanwhile, Brentford have never lost a competitive match at home to Oldham, but recent history suggests that this year’s meeting at Griffin Park could end goalless.

This is because they last three league showdowns have finished 3-3, 2-2 and 1-1, while six of the last eight have ended all square.

It is 8/1 that Brentford’s recent lack of goals leads to a 0-0 at home to Oldham. See the complete Brentford vs Oldham match betting odds market.
