Notts County see Ince as ideal manager to meet big aspirations
Published:Paul Ince has a decent track record of managing in the lower leagues and could prove the ideal appointment by Notts County as they target promotion to the Championship.
Craig Short was recently sacked as manager after an average start to the League One season which sees the Magpies sit 16th in the standings, although they are only six points outside of the automatic promotion places and three points adrift of the play-offs.
However, the club’s hierarchy took the decision that a new boss was required and Ince was seen to fit the bill perfectly to match their aspirations.
Chairman Ray Trew told the club’s website: “Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League, making him the obvious choice for me.
“When we met Paul it quickly became clear that he was the ideal candidate, he’d done his homework, had some big ideas and was ready to get stuck in straightaway.”
Notts County are 40/1 to win League One and Ince surely has the materials and presence to get the best out of his players.
The fact that he represented England will give him some respect from his squad, while his other achievements in the game should be well respected.
He has also led the MK Dons to promotion from League Two, while somehow saving Macclesfield from relegation in the same division when they looked doomed for the drop.
Ince could not have asked for a tougher start as manager as Notts County are at home to Southampton.
Notts County are 2/1 to win and Ince can take confidence from Peter Reid, who watched his Plymouth team beat Southampton in his first game as boss on the opening day of the League One season.
