LFC – Gillett and Hicks throw up tedious twist in Liverpool saga
Published:George Gillett and Tom Hicks will have endeared themselves further to the Liverpool fans this morning, after more mischief continues the delay of the sale of Liverpool Football Club.
As the reconstituted board sat down to discuss the future of LFC last night, the American duo were busy appealing to a Texas Court for a temporary restraining order to stop the sale of LFC.
The duo claim this morning that this restraining order has been granted and the Liverpool board have been quick to reply: “The independent directors consider the restraining order to be unwarranted and damaging and will move as swiftly as possible to seek to have it removed.
“Regrettably, Thomas Hicks and George Gillett obtained a Temporary Restraining Order from a Texas District Court against the independent directors, Royal Bank of Scotland PLC and NESV, to prevent the transaction being completed.”
Whilst the Texas petition doesn’t have any particular jurisdiction in this country, the Liverpool board can’t ignore it.
But the delays will not perturb John W Henry who has revealed NESV are prepared to wait and will not walk away from the deal.
Mr Justice Lloyd will once again run the rule over the situation when the boardroom heads back to the High Court on Thursday afternoon in the ever-changing saga.
Steven Gerrard was quick to praise the High Court’s decision on Wednesday, stating that a quick resolve would be the best thing for LFC and allow the players to focus on their performances on the pitch.
That quick resolution is unlikely to happen and extra impotence has been put on the Merseyside derby on the weekend.
Liverpool are 2/1 to beat Everton on Saturday, but a loss would plunge the whole club into despondency.
