Leeds United vs Cardiff – Bluebirds bid to go level with leaders

Published:

The two most heavily populated branches of the Peter Ridsdale fan club face off live on Sky Sports 1 in Monday night’s televised Championship game, as Cardiff visit Leeds United in the knowledge that three points will move them level with QPR at the top of the table.

The teams are practically inseparable in the betting with Dave Jones’ men favourites to take the three points at 8/5, ahead of 13/8 Leeds by the slenderest of fractions imaginable.

A glance at the form book suggests that the Welsh side are the more likely winners, given that the Whites have already lost three times in front of their own fans and haven’t beaten Cardiff in nine meetings, suffering defeat in the most recent four.

The Bluebirds head to Elland Road on a run of three successive victories, including two away from home that have coincided with Craig Bellamy‘s return, however it’s Jay Bothroyd that has been getting the goals and credit, with some suggesting he deserves an England call-up.

The Arsenal trainee is Cardiff’s top goalscorer this season with a fantastic nine strikes in 12 appearances, so it’s no surprise that he stands shoulder to shoulder with the Wales captain as the 9/2 joint-favourite to score first.

Leeds supporters may be frustrated by their topsy-turvy start to life back in the second tier, but they’ve seen more goals in their home matches than any other club in the division, which is why it’s a bit of a shock that over 2.5 goals is available to back at 10/11.

Three of Cardiff’s last four triumphs have come by a 2-1 margin, while Leeds last three league games have finished by the same scoreline, rendering the 2-1 away win an attractive correct score bet at 9/1.

Cardiff are 12/5 to score in both halves. See the full Leeds United vs Cardiff match betting odds market here.
