Larkin expecting to turn scoring corner for Hartlepool soon

Colin Larkin remains confident that he will go on a scoring spree for Hartlepool once he manages to net his first goal of the season.

Larkin has started in seven of Hartlepool’s 12 League One games so far and is still waiting to open his account, despite regularly being employed as the lone striker through the middle.

The Irishman has only managed one goal since moving from Northampton ahead of last season, but believes his barren streak will finally end and he can be backed at 150/1 to be League One’s top scorer this season.

He told the Northern Echo: “Everybody says I’m due a goal but I’m confident in my own ability. It’s just getting that one goal and hopefully that will kick everything else off.”

One strategy that may pay dividends for caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth is to play two strikers, with Larkin being offered more support and something to feed off.

This could be attempted in Hartlepool’s next League One game, which is a home fixture with Bristol Rovers.

Hartlepool are 6/5 to beat Bristol Rovers, which is something they have only done once at home in the last four seasons.

The visitors have won the last three meetings between the two and are 7/4 to extend this winning streak and potentially move into the play-off places in League One.

As well as scoring more goals, Hartlepool also need to focus on keeping more clean sheets as they have conceded 15 goals in their six games at Victoria Park this season.

They can take confidence from their last home game, which ended in a 2-0 victory over another of the division’s high flyers in Peterborough.

Hartlepool’s last win over Bristol Rovers was 1-0 and a repeat is priced at 7/1. See the full Hartlepool vs Bristol Rovers match betting odds market.
