Keane keen to bring in Miller to help revive Ipswich fortunes

Ipswich manager Roy Keane has confirmed his interest in Ishmael Miller but feels that he may have his hands full luring the West Brom striker to Portman Road.

After an impressive opening to the season which saw them regularly occupy the Championship play-off places, the wheels have fallen off Ipswich’s promotion push of late.

Ipswich have lost four of their last five league matches, with a slightly leaky defence perhaps the most logical reason for their drop to 14th in the standings and a slump to 33/1 to win the Championship.

However, Keane has targeted a new striker to get the club’s aspirations back on track, with Miller towards the top of his hitlist.

Miller has spent a long stint on the sidelines since signing permanently for West Brom, but is closing in on a return to full fitness and has also proven to have the pace, power and direct approach to be a threat in the Championship.

Keane knows these attributes make the 23-year-old a likely target for numerous Championship clubs and he hopes that a potential move south will not put Miller off joining his club.

He said: “Ishmael Miller will have plenty of options. We are in the market and if you think we are the only club in for a player like him then you are mad.

“I don’t think we’d be the first option for players from Premier League clubs in the Midlands or the North West. We have trouble attracting players down here as they don’t often want to move away.”

Ipswich host Millwall in the Championship next and will be relying on the likes of Jason Scotland to find the target.

Scotland has four Championship goals so far with Ipswich 10/11 to beat Millwall.

Ipswich have beaten Millwall 2-1 in two of the last three meetings between the pair. See the full Ipswich vs Millwall match betting market.
