Beckford’s lack of goals proves no concern for Moyes
Published:Everton manager David Moyes had admitted injury has forced him to turn to Jermaine Beckford much earlier on then he would have liked.
Beckford joined the Toffees on a free transfer after his Leeds contract expired in July, but has yet to score for his new club.
He’s so far made three starts and three appearances from the bench, but, as yet, he’s not found the net.
His lack of goals doesn’t worry his manager though, as David Moyes was quick to point out this week.
When asked about Beckford’s progress, Moyes revealed he had hoped to gradually bring Beckford into the fray, but ended up starting him much earlier than he would have liked.
“What I wanted was him coming off the bench but I ended up starting with him early on,” said Moyes.
“People are saying he is not settling in but Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka both took a year to settle. One thing is certain – he is definitely a goalscorer.”
Beckford isn’t the only one finding it hard to score for the Toffees this season.
No Everton striker has managed to score yet , with the Blues relying almost entirely on Tim Cahill and Mikael Arteta for goals.
The Toffees host Stoke City this weekend, and will want to make it two home wins on the bounce and stretch their unbeaten record to five matches.
Everton are 4/7 to win, with Stoke back at 5/1.
A draw at 11/4 may be a decent bet though as that was the result in both of their meetings last season.
The Toffees’ good recent form has pulled them up to 11th and odds on them being relegated have lengthened to 33/1.
Stoke on the other hand have lost their last two games and odds on them finishing in the bottom three have been cut to 7/1.
