Howard aiming for another clean sheet as Everton head to Spurs
Tim Howard has praised the contributions of Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in Everton’s reversal in form and is hoping the defensive duo star again in their next outing at Tottenham.
Everton have not conceded a goal in their last three Premier League games, with Howard doing his bit between the sticks and Jagielka and Distin forming a solid bond in front of him.
Howard will now set his sights on bettering the club record he broke in 2009 when keeping 17 clean sheets over the course of the season.
He told the official Everton website: “Defensively we have been rock solid, we have cohesiveness and the relationship between the back four and keeper is the key to that. We have limited the chances against us and made our blocks when we have needed to.
“Jags and Sylvain have an understanding. They can read each other perfectly, their body language – everything.”
Everton have kept clean sheets in two of their last four Premier League meetings with Spurs at White Hart Lane and another one would help continue their climb towards the top half of the table.
They are 11/4 to beat Spurs and they can take confidence from the fact that the hosts have let in at least once in their last ten games in all competitions.
Yakubu scored Everton’s goal in a defeat at Tottenham last season and is still searching for his first goal of the current campaign as he continues his comeback from injury.
He is available at 7/1 to score first against Spurs and 9/4 to find the net at any time within the 90 minutes.
Tottenham are 1/1 to take the three points, but may also be a bit jaded after their Champions League excursions which saw them battle courageously in a 4-3 defeat at Inter Milan. See the full Spurs vs Everton match betting odds market.
