Hodgson hints star striker could replace Rooney at rivals
Published:Roy Hodgson will have endeared himself further to the Liverpool fans with his comments suggesting Fernando Torres may replace Wayne Rooney at Man Utd.
His job as Liverpool manager is under immense scrutiny from a large section of the Anfield faithful, and if Hodgson doesn’t turn Liverpool’s season around quickly, starting with the game against Blackburn on Saturday, Hodgson could be in line for the sack.
At 4/6 to be the next Premier League manager to leave, the betting market certainly believes that Hodgson’s future as Liverpool manager is soon to come to an end.
His comments surrounding the whole Rooney affair suggests Torres also wants away, and Hodgson is worried Man Utd will snap up Liverpool’s prize asset.
“I don’t think Torres would be the only player they’ll be targeting or we’d be the only club worried their star is going to be a target,” said Hodgson.
“I’m not naive enough to think there is no danger we’ll ever lose Torres.
“I can only hope we won’t, I’ll do everything in my power to keep him happy at the club.”
Torres’ performances of late mirror those of Wayne Rooney.
Despite Spain winning the World Cup the two players both had poor tournaments and have only scored the once this season as they look to recapture their best form.
The loss of both players are huge blows to both sides as worries about their clubs futures evolve, and Liverpool must win at Blackburn if they are to convince everyone that they will not be involved in a relegation fight.
Liverpool are 4/6 to beat Blackburn and currently 10/1 to be relegated, but a loss to Blackburn would see the relegation price shorten and Roy Hodgson’s position become untenable.
