Hamsik revelling in more attacking role at high-flying Napoli

Marek Hamsik believes that a change in position has been instrumental in adding more goals to his game and helping Napoli feature towards the head of the Serie A table after the opening six games of the season.

Manager Walter Mazzarri has reaped the rewards of pushing Hamsik into a more advanced position as the Slovakian has scored three goals in his last four Serie A games to help Napoli sit in third spot in the table, two points behind leaders Lazio.

Hamsik is also happy with the change, where he pulls the strings behind strikers Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

He said: “On a personal level, things are now going better. Mazzarri has found the right position to get the best out of me and I have even started to score some goals.”

Napoli are now 25/1 to win the Serie A title for the first time since 1990 and they can take confidence from the fact that seven points have already been taken off three of their pre-season title rivals.

After drawing away at Fiorentina, Napoli left Sampdoria with three points and defeated Roma at home.

However, more important games lie ahead in the coming month, most notably a home game with AC Milan which should provide a better idea of their title-winning credentials.

Mazzarri is taking each game as it comes, but is pleased with the brand of football currently being played at Napoli.

He added: “Being up there is certainly a reason for everyone to be satisfied, for the club, the team and above all the fans, who are our motor.

“We play good football, the team entertains and it has fun itself. It’s a Napoli that expresses real emotion, and for this reason I like it.”
