De Vries feels Swansea have the tools for promotion push

Dorus de Vries believes that the only ingredient currently missing in Swansea’s push for promotion to the Premier League is that little bit of added confidence when playing away from home.

Swansea have been impressive at the Liberty Stadium so far as they won their opening four games and then drew with Derby, but they have been far less dominant on their travels.

Brendan Rodgers watched his team lose their first four away Championship games, although there were signs that a corner had been turned when they beat Watford in their last game on the road.

Goalkeeper De Vries is happy with the quality of the squad assembled by Rodgers and there is no real reason why they cannot improve upon their performances in recent Championship campaigns.

He said: “We’re a more mature squad now, we’ve progressed again and step by step we’re progressing still. We have all the ingredients to do well.

“We can score a lot of goals, but the key is to play as a team. Then it can be a great season. We can get great results if we believe in ourselves and play as a team.”

Swansea are currently 25/1 to win the Championship and have ten points to make up on QPR, who lead the standings at present.

They also have two massive games first thing after the international break as they head to Reading, who sit just above them in the table on goal difference, before hosting QPR.

Both games with Reading finished in a draw last season, with Darren Pratley scoring Swansea’s goal in the 1-1 at the Madejski Stadium.

Keeping things tight may be Swansea’s best approach this season as they have conceded 11 times in their five Championship games away from home.

Reading are 14/1 to win the Championship, despite only making a marginally better start than Swansea. See the full Championship winners betting odds market.
