Cox hoping goals move him up the West Brom pecking order

Simon Cox is hoping that his double in West Brom’s Carling Cup victory over Leicester increases the chances of him being selected for the club’s next Premier League game away at Blackpool.

Cox has found playing time hard to come by at the Hawthornes this season because of West Brom’s impressive Premier League start and has managed to make just two substitute appearances in their opening nine games.

This start has resulted in West Brom lengthening to 5/1 to be relegated from the Premier League this season, although they are only six points clear of the bottom three.

Cox was bought as a striker from Swindon by the Baggies, but when selected he has been employed in a midfield role by Roberto Di Matteo.

With West Brom flying high in sixth in the Premier League, Cox knows that the manager is unlikely to change a winning team, but although he is happy to wait for a chance, he hopes his cup performance results in a rise up the pecking order.

Cox told West Brom’s official website: “The lads are flying at the moment and there is a real aura around the club. We feel like we’re unbeatable and I can’t argue with it.

“The manager picks a team on a Saturday and if I’m in it that’s great. If I’m not and I’m on the bench and he decides to bring me on I am happy with that.

“I have to wait my turn and this season is about patience for me. It’s a situation where I have to prove to the manager I can do a job if he does play me.”

One thing in Cox’s favour is that he has never been on the losing side at West Brom when he has scored, which is a run he will be hoping to maintain against Blackpool.

West Brom are 6/4 to win away at Blackpool, with Cox 8/1 to break the deadlock and 5/2 to score at any time within the 90 minutes. See the full Blackpool vs West Brom match betting odds market.
