Count on Lambert to gun down Tranmere for rejuvenated Saints

Published:

Southampton have scored nine goals in their previous two home games with Tranmere and manager Nigel Adkins will be hoping that further strikes are on the agenda this season to help their climb up the League One table.

The Saints seemed in slight disarray before Adkins was recently appointed as manager, but he has got their promotion aspirations back on track with seven points from a possible nine in their last three games.

It is 2/5 that they beat Tranmere, while the visitors are 7/1 to inflict a first home defeat on Adkins since his arrival at St Mary’s.

Rickie Lambert scored twice in the 3-0 home victory over Tranmere last season, while also helping himself to a brace in Southampton’s most recent victory over Bournemouth.

He is 11/4 to open the scoring against Tranmere.

Swindon have been one of the more inconsistent teams in League One and a winning streak would significantly benefit their chances of repeating last season’s efforts of at least making the play-offs.

They host Bristol Rovers next, which is a fixture that does not provide great memories from the last campaign as the visitors left with a surprise 4-0 victory.

Bristol Rovers are 13/5 to leave with the three points again, with a repeat of last season’s comprehensive success priced at 100/1.

Meanwhile, Swindon are 1/1 to beat Bristol Rovers and gain just their third victory from six home games.

Elsewhere, a draw seems a more than likely outcome as Colchester entertain fellow promotion contenders Huddersfield.

Colchester are the only League One team still unbeaten this season and four of the six times they have hosted Huddersfield in the division since the turn of the century the result has ended all square.

The draw this season can be backed at 12/5, while Colchester are 11/8 to beat Huddersfield to retain their undefeated streak.

Southampton’s strong squad and good form has seen them become 4/1 favourites to win League One this season. See the full League One winners betting odds market.
