Cheltenham marksman targets League Two play-off berth
Published:Cheltenham Town have what it takes to end the season in the League Two play-offs.
That’s according to striker Jeff Goulding who said he sees no reason why the Robins can’t have top seven aspirations.
Goulding said, “I don’t see why we can’t push for the play-offs, and as long as we keep grinding out results we can finish in the top six or seven.”
Cheltenham have won their last two games and are sitting in seventh in League Two – they are 50/1 to win League Two.
They have managed to reach seventh place without leading scorer Wesley Thomas, as the seven goal striker was struck down with a thigh injury in their draw with Oxford United and has missed three games.
Goulding has netted three times this campaign and has been installed at 66/1 to end the year as League Two’s top goalscorer, with his Cheltenham Town team mate Wesley Thomas, 14/1 to do the same.
A new signing at Whaddon Road, Goulding is enjoying playing first team football after not getting much of it at Bournemouth.
But Goulding is under no illusions that his starting spot is guaranteed.
“I have to keep performing to keep my place, but it gives you confidence to know you are going to be playing” he said.
Cheltenham make the long trip to Bradford this weekend and will want to increase the pressure on Bantams’ boss Peter Taylor.
His side won last weekend against Bury, but six defeats so far this season has left them in 21st and Taylor is fighting for his job.
The Bantams are tipped to continue their recovery, with betting odds of 1/1 for them to overcome Cheltenham.
But the Robins shouldn’t be written off and at 11/4 are more than a good bet to continue their impressive form.
