Carroll signs up for Premier League relegation battle at Magpies

Newcastle have received a big boost as they attempt to secure their Premier League survival this season as striker Andy Carroll has signed a new contract.

Carroll has supported Newcastle since he was a child and has made a good start to the current season to be the Magpies’ top scorer with four Premier League goals.

The new five-year deal will keep Carroll at Newcastle until 2015 and they are delighted to have secured the long-term commitment of one of their brightest young stars.

He told Newcastle’s official website: “All I have ever wanted to do is play for Newcastle United. That’s been the case since I was a teenager, playing in the juniors and reserves, and it’s still the same now.

“Every time I pull on the black and white shirt – and even more so now that I have the number nine on my back – it means the world to me.”

Carroll’s desire to play to the best of his ability will be especially critical as the early signs are that they may be involved in a relegation struggle this season.

Despite Carroll’s four goals in seven games, Newcastle sit just one point outside of the bottom three and they are 7/2 to be relegated from the Premier League this season and make an immediate return to the Championship.

Newcastle will be keen for Carroll to add to his goal tally immediately after the international break as they face potentially important games against two of their fellow relegation contenders.

Wigan visit St James’ Park first, before Newcastle embark on the lengthy trip to London to face West Ham.

Carroll’s four goals also make him an early-season contender to finish as the top scorer in the Premier League this season, for which he is currently priced at 66/1. See the full Premier League top scorer betting odds market.
