Brighton double League One lead on perfect weekend for Seagulls

Anyone who watched the League One results come in on Final Score or Soccer Saturday on matchday 13 of the campaign will have struggled to shake off the feeling that Brighton are destined to be promoted this season.

Throughout the opening months of the campaign, no team has managed to open up a lead at the top of the table, despite plenty of clubs being handed a chance, and yet yesterday the Seagulls were able to extend their advantage from three points to six in one swift swoop.

Their 2-0 victory over Yeovil, secured courtesy of goals either side of the break by Glenn Murray and Inigo Calderon, incredibly fell on a weekend where each of the eight teams below though failed to win, with five of the chasing pack falling to defeats.

Perhaps the most surprising loss of all the title contenders belonged to Peterborough, who suffered a third reverse in five away to a Brentford side that started the day in the bottom four, despite scoring the opening goal. Posh are now 6/1 to go up as champions.

The closest club to Brighton in the betting are Southampton. The Saints are 7/2 to finish first despite their lowly league position of 14th having won three of their last four, the latest success coming 2-1 against Oldham this weekend.

There are still tempting odds of 3/1 offered on Brighton ending the season on top. See the full League One winners betting odds market.
