Brian Flynn wants Wales managerial job on a permanent basis
Published:With two defeats in two games as caretaker boss for Wales, Brian Flynn has drifted from 1/1 to 6/4 in his attempt to become the permanent Wales manager.
Since the departure of John Toshack after Wales’ defeat to Montenegro, Flynn has been in temporary charge of the squad, and has received the backing of the squad.
The complimentary remarks made by the players this week are in Flynn’s favour, and he is the second favourite to be given the job on a permanent basis, despite the defeats to Bulgaria and Switzerland.
“I’ve not worked for six years to throw it away, that’s for certain,” said Flynn, the ex-Swansea and Wrexham manager.
“I’ve been made fully aware that there will be a shortlist and there will be interviews – and that’s how it is at the moment.”
Three men have been very vocal about their ambitions to become the Wales manager, and Ian Rush currently heads John Hartson and Chris Coleman in the betting market after becoming the 11/8 favourite.
John Hartson has officially applied for the role and has all the necessary coaching badges he needs to be taken seriously by the Football Association of Wales – Hartson is 14/1 to be the next Wales manager.
Coleman is without a job after being sacked by Coventry at the end of last season and is 3/1 to take the job.
The most successful Welsh manager in the Football League is Tony Pulis after guiding Stoke to the Premier League and keeping them there, but he has ruled himself out of the job and is 40/1 to leave Stoke for Wales.
Ryan Giggs, 20/1, Kenny Jacket, 20/1, and Gary Speed, 25/1, join Pulis in the next permanent Wales manager market despite all ruling themselves out of the race.
