Boyd backed to rediscover goalscoring touch at Middlesbrough
Published:Kris Boyd may have made a slow start to life at Middlesbrough but captain Gary O’Neil insists that it is only a matter of time before the striker begins to find the net on a regular basis in the Championship.
Boyd began the season as the favourite to be the Championship’s top scorer after banging in the goals for fun at Rangers, but has taken a while to warm to the English style with just two goals in the opening ten league games.
However, O’Neil believes that Boyd has now turned a corner after finding the target against Derby recently and his killer instinct in the box will soon be seen by fans at the Riverside.
O’Neil told the Gazette Live: “We are just starting to see how good he can be. He is fantastic at creating a bit of space and finding a chance for himself, stealing a yard and getting into the right areas.
“There’s no doubt he can be a match-winner for us.”
Boyd has fallen to 14/1 to end the season as the Championship’s top scorer and after being left out of Scotland’s squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers, he will be keen to sharpen up for a quick batch of Championship fixtures.
After the two-week international break Middlesbrough have three Championship games in seven days, beginning at home to Leeds and then away at Nottingham Forest and Norwich.
Middlesbrough have only managed 11 goals in ten games and this has been instrumental in their disappointing start to sit in the bottom third of the Championship standings.
But a few wins could see them feature in the play-off places and Middlesbrough are 25/1 to win the Championship this season.
