Bet on Switzerland vs Wales – Both sides looking for first points

Published:

Switzerland host Wales in Basel on Tuesday night knowing a win is their only possible chance of mounting a challenge for Euro 2012 qualification.

Wales’ defeat to Bulgaria has all but ended their chances of qualification and Switzerland will need to take advantage of the lack of confidence currently being shown by Brian Flynn’s squad.

Match Odds

Wales are without 12 of Brian Flynn’s original squad with Ashley Williams and Joe Ledley fresh doubts, and Flynn will be forced to hand debut’s to the likes of Cardiff’s Darcy Blake.

With all the injury problems that Flynn is experiencing, the pressure falls on Gareth Bale to lead the team in Basel, but one man will struggle in a team where goals are hard to come by and Switzerland are 4/9 to beat Wales.

Wales may be able to draw on some extra motivation after letting Flynn down in the game with Bulgaria last Friday, and the squad will want to put in a strong performance as Flynn seeks the job on a permanent basis – Wales are 13/2 to win.

Total Goals

Wales are yet to score in the competition and Switzerland have managed just the one goal against England so far.

But with Welsh captain and centre-back Williams unlikely to play, the Swiss may be able to take advantage and Alexander Frei is the 4/5 favourite to score any time.

James Collins will have to marshal his defensive troops well if Wales are to keep out the Swiss attack and the game could be separated by the solitary goal.

7/4 is available for under 1.5 goals in the match, but if Wales can get off the scoring mark against Switzerland, then 2-1 to the Swiss is a very likely result and is priced at 7/1.

England are the 1/8 favourites to top Group G. See the full Switzerland vs Wales betting odds market here.
