Newcastle vs Wigan – Magpies to topple Martinez

Published:

Wigan have never won at St. James Park and they’re not likely to this Saturday either.

Match Odds

The Magpies and Latics have struggled to find any sort of consistency in their form so far this season.

Newcastle United’s 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa at St. James Park, and a superb 1-0 win away at Everton, and have been coupled by embarrassing home defeats to Blackpool and Stoke.

They’ll be looking to change that against Wigan and are priced at 4/5 to turn over the Latics.

Three weeks ago, Wigan looked like a complete write off after their opening day humiliation to Blackpool and thumping by Chelsea.

They’ve since recovered and a good win over Wolves last week means odds of 7/2 on them claiming all three points on Tyneside aren’t overly optimistic.

It’ll be tough though, the Latics lost 14 times away from home last season and only managed three wins.

They’ve improved this season, especially so in a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane, but will not be pinning many hopes on repeating this against Newcastle.

A draw, at 5/2, may be the best they can hope for.

To Come From Behind And Win Or Draw

Wigan are late starters, both in the sense it took them three weeks to pick up their first points and when they score their goals.

They’ve scored 75% of their goals this season between the 80th and 90th minute and, at 11/2 to come from behind and win or draw, it’s a possibility they can continue this run.

The Magpies, comparitively, tend to score early on, with an average of 37 minutes for their first goal of the game.

The Toon have managed to score more than one goal on just a single occasion and are rated at 8/1 to be leading at half time and not go on to win.

Given Wigan’s streak of late goals, this could be a good punt.

Kevin Nolan is 7/4 to score against Wigan. See the Newcastle vs Wigan match betting odds market here.
